It helps immensely when you show you are keen to learn about what they love and enjoy, and show this in practical ways by co-viewing, or participating with them in games or on social media. When children feel you are engaged and on their side and authentically understand the environment where they spend time, help seeking behaviours and advice is sought far more readily.
